Oh New York whenever I’m down, whenever in doubt, I leave my house and you find me. On a rainy evening the sidewalk’s washed clean, and the streets glare wet as taxis tap lightly. I’m walking home now, comforted by a glass of wine I shared with a friend of mine. We sat at the spotted pig in the west village. After an art demonstration all the way uptown on park avenue. After a reading by my favorite poet in the east village. After a play at the Citizens Brigade in Chelsea. After the cello player sang and played at the Bedford L station. After a stroll through my favorite book store owned by a man with a beard and a shirt stained with coffee. After my neighbor asked me a favor and I helped him. After my super knocked on my door and told me to ignore the noise from the floor above me. After I started my day just moments away, and the time flew by without me knowing. Good night my life, my love, my heart’s satisfied, and gratitude becomes me.
